Subways Music and Meliti Ensemble are proud to present an all-new release titled "YUNAN", which is the Arabic word for Greece. The title becomes more obvious by the subtitle " a Greek music caravan in the Middle East". This means, that the ensemble is formed with classical and western-trained musicians who penetrate in Arabic music esthetics. The outcome is achieved with original compositions and traditional melodies arranged especially for the Meliti Ensemble and the guests that contributed.
Compositions by Alekos K. Vretos, Paul Papadopoulos, Dr. Ali Jihad Racy and two traditional melodies, interpreted by Yiasemi Saragouda and Korina Veni are heard in this recording. Also, two taqasim (improvisations) are included, one by the oud soloist Alekos K. Vretos and a duet of the later and the great Nikos Saragoudas.
The arrangements are the work A.K.Vretos, P. Papadopoulos and Nikos Saragoudas.
The members of the Meliti Ensemble are: Alekos K. Vretos (Music Director and oudist), Paul Papadopoulos (Violin I), George Konstantinidis (Violin II), Dimitris Theologitis (Violin III), Vassilis Karahoutis (Bass) and Dimitris Emmanouil (Percussion).
The special guests are: Nikos Saragoudas (oud), Albert Panagiotopoulos (Drums), Yiasemi Saragouda (Voice), Korina Veni (voice) and Andreas Skandalos (Qanun).
"Yunan" is a rare musical experience. Thanks to the beautiful performance of the Meliti Ensemble and its guests, this recording reveals thousands of years of neighbor musical and otherwise traditions.
